I would like to welcome you to Seneca White Deer’s website. Since 1998, Seneca White Deer has worked to conserve the wildlife, especially the unique white deer, of the former Seneca Army Depot, as well as the Depot’s military history.
Over more than two decades, SWD spent thousands of volunteer hours and thousands of its own dollars to keep this important issue in the public eye. SWD became known for its professional activism, and became a respected conservation entity.
We are proud to have conducted tours of the former Depot for more than two years, from late 2017 to the end of 2019. Those tours allowed more than 15,000 visitors to get a glimpse “beyond the fence” at the wildlife and history that were hidden from the public for almost 70 years.
I would like to thank everyone who had a part in making those tours possible…our Board of Directors, our hardworking staff, our enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers, and our generous donors and supporters.
We look forward to working with the Seneca County and the County Historian to use SWD’s historical exhibits and artifacts to create a memorial to the former Seneca Army Depot and the role it has played in Seneca County.
Most of all, thanks to the 15,000 visitors who have been able to share the white deer experience and military mysteries of the former Depot.
