Seneca White Deer, Inc. works as an advocacy organization for the white deer and the other wildlife of the former Depot.
As a non-profit, 501(c) 3 organization, Seneca White Deer, Inc. is run by an unpaid Board of Directors. Our volunteer Board serves to promote the mission of SWD by working with the community and local officials to best preserve the unique wildlife and military history of the site.
Seneca White Deer, Inc. has worked for nearly 20 years to fulfill its mission of preserving the wildlife and military history of the former Depot. A key objective has been to share those resources with the public. SWD’s proposals for creating an eco-tourism center at the former Depot won widespread support, but were never realized.
When the Seneca County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) sold the majority of the Depot property in 2016, SWD was pleased that the IDA required bidders to submit a deer management plan as part of the purchase proposals. SWD worked with the successful bidder, to conduct a tour program featuring the military artifacts and wild life of the Depot from November 2017 to December 2019. During those 26 months, more than 15,000 visitors shared the white deer experience and military mysteries of the former Depot with our tour guides.
Seneca White Deer, Inc. continues to operate as an advocacy organization, working with the community and local officials to best preserve the unique wildlife and military history of the site.
