White Deer Tours will continue, 3 days a week, throughout the winter months, according to Dennis Money, president of Seneca White Deer. The tours are scheduled for 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.mm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through the end of February.
“We’ve had people book January and February tours already, so that’s a really good sign,“ said Money. “We’re prepared to add even more tours if there is enough demand.”
Seneca White Deer, Inc. has conducted a program of 90-minute tours of the former Seneca Army Depot to view the world’s largest herd of white, white-tail deer and military artifacts since mid-November 2017. Tours were often sold out, and extra tours were added to satisfy the demand.
Winter offers great viewing opportunities, as the leaves are off the trees and the deer are actively foraging for food. Bucks will lose their antlers in January, but they can often be distinguished by their larger size and heavier build. Heated tour buses ensure that everyone will be comfortable
In March, the group plans to expand the tour program to include more days and more tours each day. The tours will continue year round as Seneca White Deer works to preserve the unique animals and make them accessible to the public.
